New details are emerging about Halloween: The Game, an upcoming multiplayer horror title from IllFonic that brings Michael Myers back into the spotlight. Based on the long-running film franchise, the game is set to launch on September 8, just in time for Halloween.
The game centers on a 1v4 asymmetrical format, where one player controls Michael Myers while four others take on the role of Haddonfield residents. Players can either embrace the role of the relentless killer or work together to survive and protect others in the town.
Those playing as Myers are given a range of abilities designed to capture the character’s unsettling presence. One of his abilities is Shape Jump, which allows him to move through shadows unseen, recreating the eerie way he appears without warning in the films. This ability can only be used in darkness and when he is out of sight, adding a layer of strategy. Another skill, Shape Dash, lets the character surge forward quickly, while Killer Sense helps track nearby targets. As players build up Stalk levels, they gain access to stronger tracking and execution options.
On the other side, players controlling civilians must explore Haddonfield, locate other residents, and guide them to safety. Each character comes with individual traits and abilities, encouraging teamwork and different play styles. During matches, players can search buildings for supplies, uncover escape routes, and interact with non-playable characters to request help or gather useful information.
Even after being eliminated, players are not entirely out of the match. They can return as support characters, including a Sheriff’s Deputy or Dr. Sam Loomis, and continue helping remaining players attempt to stop Myers. While the killer cannot be permanently defeated, coordinated effort can lead to his capture and return to Smith’s Grove Sanitarium.

Unlike similar games that focus only on escaping, Halloween: The Game adds another layer by encouraging civilians to fight back and involve law enforcement. This creates a more active objective beyond survival, pushing players to work together under pressure.
The game also includes a single-player campaign that revisits the events of the original 1978 film, along with offline bot matches and multiple maps inspired by iconic locations like Haddonfield Heights.
IllFonic, known for titles such as Friday the 13th: The Game and Predator: Hunting Grounds, is collaborating with Gun Interactive on the project. John Carpenter is involved as an executive producer, and original actor Nick Castle contributes to Michael Myers’ portrayal alongside motion-capture performer TJ Storm.
This time, the fear is not just about escaping the night. It is about how long you can hold your ground before Michael Myers finds you.
