inZOI Takes the Top Spot on Steam’s Most Wanted List Ahead of Its March 28 Release

As the release date for inZOI draws near, excitement continues to build around the game. Set to launch in early access on March 28, this highly anticipated life simulation title has surged to the number-one spot on Steam’s most-wanted list, overtaking major upcoming releases like Hollow Knight: Silksong, Deadlock, and Elden Ring: Nightreign. Developed by inZOI Studio and published by KRAFTON, Inc., the game has amassed over 50,000 new followers on Valve’s PC platform within a week, solidifying its position as one of the most eagerly awaited games of the year.

A New Competitor in the Life Simulation Genre

inZOI presents itself as a fresh alternative to The Sims, offering a unique gameplay experience with photorealistic visuals, open-world mechanics, and deep customization. Players take on the role of a designer at AR COMPANY, responsible for managing a neighborhood of virtual residents known as Zois. Unlike traditional life sims, inZOI focuses on character creation, world-building, and freeform gameplay.

The game offers both point-and-click navigation and direct control over characters. At the start of early access, inZOI will feature three open-world locations: Dowon, inspired by Seoul, South Korea; Bliss Bay, modeled after Los Angeles, California; and Cahaya, based on tropical destinations in Indonesia. The Canvas tool allows players to create and share custom content such as outfits, furniture, and fully designed homes. With built-in support for plugins and modding, inZOI is designed to support a thriving creator community.

Steam Wishlist Domination and the Removal of Denuvo

In recent days, inZOI has climbed to the top of Steam’s most-wanted list and gained attention for removing Denuvo anti-tamper software. Denuvo, a controversial DRM tool criticized for impacting performance, was initially included to prevent piracy. However, after receiving feedback, the developers decided to remove it from the early access build.

Hyungjun ‘Kjun’ Kim, producer and director of inZOI, explained:

“We initially chose to implement Denuvo as a way to protect the game from illegal distribution. However, after taking a closer look at community feedback, we quickly realized that this approach did not align with what our players wanted. We believe enabling freedom from the very beginning will lead to innovative and long-lasting enjoyment for the community.”

The removal of Denuvo is expected to make inZOI more accessible and modder-friendly, reinforcing the developers’ commitment to prioritizing player experience and feedback.

Will inZOI Live Up to the Hype?

With its in-depth customization, immersive world-building, and strong focus on player-driven content, inZOI is shaping up to be a formidable competitor in the life simulation genre. However, the big question remains: Can it maintain long-term engagement like The Sims?

The game’s character creation menu, which players tested last year, has been praised for its unparalleled depth. It offers customization options never seen before in this genre, allowing players to fine-tune their characters to an obsessive degree. But beyond the visuals, players are eager to see if inZOI can deliver compelling gameplay that keeps them engaged for years to come.

As March 28 approaches, inZOI has a chance to redefine the life simulation genre. Whether it becomes a lasting success or just a fleeting trend remains to be seen, but for now, anticipation is high.
