Borderlands 4 finally has a confirmed release date. During PlayStation’s February 2025 State of Play broadcast, Gearbox Entertainment officially announced that the game will be launching on September 23. While delays are always a possibility in game development, fans are hopeful that this date will hold firm.
What We Know So Far
The upcoming Spring 2025 PlayStation State of Play is expected to dive deeper into Borderlands 4’s gameplay and story, revealing more about what players can expect. While pre-orders are not yet available, fans can wishlist the game on Steam, the Microsoft Store, and the PlayStation Store to stay updated on its availability.
Platforms and Game Engine
Borderlands 4 is set to release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. There are no confirmed plans for last-gen consoles, but given the rumored specs of the Nintendo Switch 2, there is speculation that the game could eventually make its way to that platform. While Gearbox has not confirmed the game engine, Unreal Engine 5 seems to be the most likely choice based on past hints from Randy Pitchford.
New Vault Hunters, New World, and a New Villain
Borderlands 4 introduces four brand-new Vault Hunters exploring an entirely new planet, Kairos. From the trailer, it looks like an all-out war is breaking out, promising an action-packed adventure. The antagonist this time is the ruthless tyrant Timekeeper, and players must take him down either solo or in a four-player co-op mode.
Fans of the series will be excited to know that new weapons and mobility options will make the gameplay feel faster and more dynamic than ever before. Expect new movement options like grappling, double jumps, and gliding, as well as an expansive arsenal of guns to cause maximum mayhem.
Borderlands 4 Trailer and Gameplay Teasers

The latest trailer, revealed during the State of Play in February 2025, offers a closer look at gameplay, weapons, and the chaotic battles that await players.
At The Game Awards 2024, Randy Pitchford himself introduced an exclusive gameplay preview, confirming that the game will build upon the classic Borderlands formula while introducing fresh mechanics and a compelling new story. While the gameplay trailer teased plenty of explosive action, full details will be shared in the upcoming Spring 2025 State of Play event.
