Blizzard Entertainment has confirmed that Diablo IV and its upcoming expansion, Vessel of Hatred, will be PS5 Pro Enhanced. This makes it the first Microsoft-owned game to officially support Sony’s new PS5 Pro console, which is set to launch in November.
The announcement came from Rod Fergusson, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Diablo IV, who shared the news on social media, praising the development team’s efforts but withholding further details on what enhancements players can expect.
The PS5 Pro, priced at $700, brings substantial upgrades to Sony’s gaming lineup, including improved GPU power, ray tracing, and AI-driven upscaling technology known as PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, PSSR. These enhancements are designed to offer better image clarity and overall performance for games that have been specifically updated for the PS5 Pro, though PSSR will still benefit non-enhanced titles. The console launches on November 7, and Vessel of Hatred will release just before that, on October 8, but it remains unclear if the PS5 Pro enhancement for Diablo IV will be available at launch.
The PS5 Pro Enhanced label has been appearing on the PlayStation Store, allowing fans to identify which titles will take advantage of the new hardware’s capabilities. So far, over 60 games are expected to be PS5 Pro Enhanced, with high-profile releases such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, The Last of Us Part II, and Resident Evil 4 confirmed. However, many fans are curious whether more Activision Blizzard titles, including Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, will receive similar treatment.
The PS5 Pro’s launch comes in the wake of Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, a $69 billion deal that closed in 2023. This merger has already brought Diablo IV to Microsoft’s Game Pass subscription service, though it’s only available in select tiers, and not the Standard tier. While the base game is on Game Pass, the Vessel of Hatred expansion will not be included and must be purchased separately.
The expansion introduces significant content to Diablo IV, including a new region, Nahantu, and the addition of the Spiritborn class. Players can expect new seasonal content, an increased level cap, and other gameplay improvements as part of a major update launching alongside Vessel of Hatred. There are multiple editions of the expansion available, with prices ranging from $40 for the Standard Edition to $90 for the Ultimate Edition, which includes additional in-game bonuses and perks. Game Pass subscribers can save 10% on these purchases.
With Vessel of Hatred marking Diablo IV’s first major expansion and its confirmation as a PS5 Pro Enhanced title, fans of the game are eager to see how the combination of new content and improved performance on Sony’s most powerful console yet will enhance their gameplay experience.
