Blizzard Entertainment is gearing up to celebrate the 20th anniversary of World of Warcraft, WoW, with a special update packed full of nostalgic activities, new challenges, and exclusive rewards.
This anniversary event is long-time WoW players chance to revisit some of the most memorable content in the game’s history and earn exclusive rewards. Whether they’re in it for the nostalgia or the new loot, Blizzard’s 20th anniversary update promises to be a celebration worth attending.
The event launches on October 22, and will be available until January 6, giving players nearly three months to experience the festivities and earn items. Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect.
New Quests and Special Activities
Players at level 10 and above will receive a quest called “Another Timely Invitation,” which directs them to Tanaris, near the Caverns of Time. Upon arrival, players will meet Yllana, who will introduce them to the event’s lineup. The Caverns of Time will be the main hub, where players can participate in numerous activities, both new and inspired by classic WoW moments. Here are some highlights:
Classic Timewalking
Relive classic dungeons like Dire Maul, Stratholme, Zul’Farrak, and The Deadmines. These revamped instances bring back the thrill of WoW’s earliest days.
Blackrock Depths Raid
This iconic dungeon has been reimagined as a 10-15 player raid. With 8 bosses and 5 mini-bosses, it offers item level rewards on par with the latest expansion content.
Gates of Ahn’Qiraj Scenario
Team up with Chromie to revisit this legendary event, fighting through waves of enemies and reliving epic battles against powerful foes like Tichondrius and Kel’Thuzad.
Minigames and Competitions
The Caverns of Time will host minigames that allow players to celebrate WoW’s past:
Fashion Frenzy
Compete against others in a transmog showdown where you’ll style your character based on specific themes.
Mount Mania
Show off your mount collection in a game where players must summon specific mounts as quickly as possible.
Lorewalker Cho’s Storytime
Sit back and listen as Lorewalker Cho recounts tales of Azeroth’s rich history.
There are also special PvP events, such as Korrak’s Revenge in Alterac Valley, and world bosses like the Sha of Anger and Archavon the Stonewatcher will appear for players to challenge.
Anniversary Rewards and Currencies
Throughout the event, players can earn Bronze Celebration Tokens, a new currency used to purchase various event rewards, including:
Mounts
Players can earn mounts like the Coldflame Tempest through achievements, and others like the Core Hound Chain and Obsidian Worldbreaker can be bought from vendors.
Transmog Sets
Iconic Tier 2 transmog sets are back, with updated looks and available for all classes, including those introduced after the original Tier 2 era.
Pets and Toys
Collect new pets and toys to celebrate WoW’s anniversary, like the Baby Blizzard Bear and the 20th Anniversary Balloon.
Players who missed out on items from past anniversary events can pick them up using the Bronze Celebration Tokens or Timewarped Badges at the event’s vendors.
Exclusive Warcraft-Themed Items and Classic Raids
Starting in November, the Trading Post will offer Warcraft III-themed back appearances, and vendors will feature classic items, allowing players to commemorate 30 years of Warcraft history.
