FromSoftware is one of the most respected names in game development, renowned for creating unforgettable and challenging experiences, including Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Elden Ring. While much of the attention recently has focused on Shadow of the Erdtree, the major expansion to Elden Ring, and The Duskbloods, a new IP developed for the upcoming Nintendo Switch successor, reports now indicate another unannounced game is in the works and could be released in 2026.
This new project, codenamed “FMC,” was first reported by MP1st and later confirmed by other outlets like Insider Gaming and Video Games Chronicle. It is said to be in an advanced stage of development and, based on insider information, may be finished before The Duskbloods, which is currently targeting a late 2026 release. That puts FMC in a position to be the next big game FromSoftware brings to players.
What Is FMC?
FromSoftware is well known for using internal codenames for its projects, often starting with specific letters that hint at the game’s identity. For example, Armored Core VI was internally referred to with an “F” prefix, which also appeared in codenames for other major titles. The use of “FMC” has led fans to speculate about two major possibilities.
One theory is that FromSoftware is working on a full remake or remaster of Dark Souls III. The first two entries in the series have already been updated, so revisiting the third is a natural step. The other possibility is a follow-up to Armored Core VI, either a sequel or an expansion. Given the positive reception of the game and its successful return to mech-based action, this would also be a logical direction.
Where Will It Be Revealed?
FromSoftware has a history of unveiling new projects at The Game Awards, and with the December showcase fast approaching, many believe FMC could be formally revealed there. A recent article on ComicBook.com also suggests a reveal may come soon, aligning with a mid-to-late 2026 release date and giving the studio ample time to build anticipation.
What Else Is Coming?
Beyond FMC, FromSoftware is juggling several major projects. The Duskbloods is in development for Nintendo’s console and is described as a dark fantasy title with PvPvE mechanics. At the same time, the team continues supporting Elden Ring with new content, including patches, balance updates, and lore expansions. While the specifics remain unconfirmed, it is clear that fans of FromSoftware will not have to wait long for another bold and challenging adventure.
