A new retro gaming release will soon give players a chance to revisit some of Marvel’s most recognizable video games from the 16-bit and arcade eras. The MARVEL MaXimum Collection, published by Limited Run Games, includes 13 classic Marvel games and will launch digitally on March 27.

The collection will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles, Nintendo Switch, and PC through Steam. The bundle includes games that originally appeared in arcades and on home consoles during the late 1980s and early 1990s, a time when superhero games were becoming a bigger part of the video game market.

One of the most well-known titles included in the collection is X-Men: The Arcade Game. Released by Konami in 1992, the cooperative arcade game allowed up to six players to control different members of the X-Men team as they battled villains from the comics. The game became a fixture in arcades during the early 1990s and later developed a strong following among fans of classic multiplayer games.

Another title returning in the collection is Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage. The game was based on the 1993 Marvel comic crossover Maximum Carnage, which followed Spider-Man, Venom, and other heroes as they worked to stop the villain Carnage and a group of allies from unleashing violence across New York City. The game stood out at the time for its comic-inspired visuals and its bright red Super Nintendo cartridge, which made it easy to recognize on store shelves.

The collection also includes several other Marvel games from the same period, bringing together titles that originally appeared on platforms such as the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Genesis, and arcade cabinets. By placing them in one package, the release gives longtime fans a chance to revisit games that were once scattered across multiple older systems.

Retro game compilations have become increasingly common in recent years as publishers look for ways to preserve older titles and make them playable on modern hardware. Many classic games from the 16-bit era were never re-released digitally or were removed from storefronts years ago due to licensing issues, leaving collectors and retro gaming enthusiasts searching for original cartridges or arcade machines.

Collections like MARVEL MaXimum Collection help solve that problem by updating older games so they run smoothly on current platforms. They also introduce the games to younger players who may never have experienced the arcade era of Marvel games.

Limited Run Games has built a reputation for producing physical and digital releases of retro and classic titles. The company has previously partnered with major publishers to reintroduce older games that are difficult to find on modern platforms.
