Football Heroes League

Run Games has officially launched its latest title Football Heroes League during the Future Games Show LATAM. This free-to-play multiplayer soccer game is now available in Early Access on both Steam and the Epic Games Store. The game combines fast-paced arcade-style gameplay with tactical elements, offering players a twist on traditional soccer.

Football Heroes League allows players to compete in 2v2, 3v3, and 5v5 matches, controlling a single character from a third-person perspective on the field. Instead of managing an entire team, each player selects a hero with special powers and traits. The game currently includes five playable characters, with more planned throughout the Early Access period. The available roster includes a super-speed striker with jet boots, a ball control expert with magnetic boots, a powerful brawler, a player who can freeze opponents, and a tech-savvy character who deploys helpful robotic assistants.

According to Run Games’ creative director Michael Marzola, the game is designed to deliver the intensity and excitement of real-world soccer while embracing the chaotic fun of arcade sports games. Matches are quick, lasting only four minutes, and rarely stop unless a goal is scored. There are no fouls or penalties, encouraging aggressive play and constant motion. In the event of a tie, matches enter a sudden death mode where the next goal wins.

Football Heroes League is a follow-up to Run’s previous mobile title Football Heroes Online but takes a new approach by putting players directly into the action on the pitch. The game’s design draws inspiration from classic arcade hits and hero-based shooters. Characters are designed with exaggerated visual styles and personalities, bringing a playful tone to the futuristic setting. The developers have taken cues from games like Clash of Clans for character design, emphasizing expressive features and over-the-top flair.

In addition to its core modes, the game includes a training mode for learning controls and practicing with AI opponents. While the current Early Access version features five heroes, new characters, stadiums, and cosmetic content will be added through ongoing updates. A paid All Character Bundle is available for those who want early access to future heroes along with additional customization options like skins and emotes.

The development team, composed of over 20 members and supported by contractors, plans to use the Early Access phase to refine gameplay and expand content based on player feedback. Football Heroes League is expected to launch on consoles and mobile platforms following its PC debut. The studio is also exploring the possibility of expanding the concept beyond soccer into other sports in the future.
