After years of dormancy, the beloved MOBA Heroes of Newerth is gearing up for a comeback. Its revamped version, Heroes of Newerth: Reborn, developed by Kongor Studios (made up of former staff from the original game’s team and passionate community members), is officially heading into open beta on November 11, Bleeding Cool News reported.

Originally launched in 2010 by S2 Games, Heroes of Newerth built a loyal fanbase with its fast-paced gameplay and intense competitive matches. After its servers shut down in 2022, the community kept its spirit alive through private servers and grassroots efforts.

The “Reborn” version aims to renew that legacy with major upgrades: over 80 heroes at launch, a brand-new engine powering 100-tick servers, revamped visuals and audio, and new strategic mechanics such as a “Phoenix” boss encounter and “Ravens” for lane vision.

For players interested in jumping in, the open beta allows both old fans and newcomers to experience the upgraded gameplay ahead of full release. Participants can sign up via the official game site. While no final launch date has been fixed yet beyond the open beta launch, the move reflects growing confidence in reviving the title for the modern esports and competitive scene.

As the MOBA genre evolves and remains dominated by giants like Dota 2 and League of Legends, the question now becomes: can Heroes of Newerth: Reborn carve out space of its own? With its heritage, enthusiastic development team, and open beta on the horizon, the stage is set — but success will depend on whether players return in force.
