Mafia: The Old Country will receive a free update, ‘Free Ride,’ on November 20. The update expands the game beyond its story and introduces new features that give players more freedom, difficulty options, and ways to explore the world of early 1900s Sicily.
Free Ride adds an open mode that lets players roam Valle Dorata without progressing the narrative. The mode includes a variety of challenges that can be repeated at any time. These tasks involve combat encounters, stealth objectives, and races that take place in both cars and on horseback. Completing these challenges rewards the player with Dinari, the in-game currency used to purchase new items. These items include vehicles, weapons, charms, and outfits that can be used in Free Ride as well as in the main campaign.
One of the major additions in the update is the first-person driving camera. This new viewpoint allows players to drive vintage vehicles from behind the wheel, providing a more immersive and realistic way to experience the game’s roads and racing segments. The development team has described this feature as a new way to appreciate the game’s period-correct vehicles and environments.
Another major addition is the new Classic difficulty option. This mode is designed for players who want a more demanding and strategic experience. It reduces player resources, increases enemy threat, and requires careful planning during missions. Classic difficulty is intended to mirror the tougher gameplay style that longtime fans of the Mafia series often look for.
Creative players will also gain access to the new Photo Mode. This feature allows the game to be paused at any moment so the player can adjust angles, apply filters, and capture dramatic or atmospheric images of the Sicilian countryside, city life, and character moments. The update also includes a visual option called Cinema Siciliano. This mode transforms the game’s appearance into a black and white film style inspired by classic Italian cinema, providing a stylistic approach to replay or revisit story sequences.

The Free Ride update will be available at no cost to all owners of the game. It launches for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and PC through Steam. The update continues the effort by the developers at Hangar 13 and publisher 2K to expand the game’s longevity and offer new experiences for both new players and those returning after finishing the campaign.
With new challenges, visual tools, a first-person driving perspective, and a higher difficulty setting, the Free Ride update expands the world of Mafia: The Old Country and makes its open world more active, flexible, and rewarding.
