Doom: The Dark Ages

This month brings a solid mix of new releases for every type of player. Whether you’re into retro fighters, dark fantasy, survival sims, or side-scrolling platformers, there’s something worth checking out. Below is a list of some of the biggest May 2025 game releases.

Captain Blood

Release Date: May 6
Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC, macOS
After years in development limbo, this swashbuckling action adventure finally launches. Captain Blood takes place in the Caribbean in the 1600s and combines naval battles, sword fights, treasure hunts, and a stylized hack-and-slash combat system.

 

 

PlayStation Plus Essential – May Free Games

Release Date: Available May 6 – June 2
Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5
This month’s PS Plus lineup includes Ark: Survival Ascended, a remastered survival game with upgraded visuals and new content; Balatro, a poker-inspired roguelike deck-builder; and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, a retro FPS with a heavy metal edge.

The Precinct

Release Date: May 13
Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
Step into the role of rookie cop Nick Cordell Jr. in this top-down action game set in a 1980s-inspired crime-ridden city. You’ll chase suspects, handle emergencies, and keep the peace using police tactics and high-speed car chases.

 

 

Doom: The Dark Ages

Release Date: May 15
Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
Premium Early Access launches May 13. This gritty, medieval-themed prequel to the DOOM series throws players into brutal first-person combat with ancient weapons like the Shield Saw. Ride dragons, battle demons, and power through massive siege battles with a heavy-metal soundtrack.

Capcom Fighting Collection 2

Release Date: May 16
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC
This second volume of Capcom classics includes beloved arcade fighters like Power Stone and Capcom vs. SNK 2, all updated with online play, training modes, and rollback netcode.

 

 

Blades of Fire

Release Date: May 22
Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
From the creators of Metroid Dread, this dark fantasy action adventure follows Aran de Lira, a warrior who forges powerful weapons to fight a cursed queen. Expect fast-paced, stamina-based combat and a rich interconnected world.

 

 

Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo

Release Date: May 28
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
A whimsical platform adventure reminiscent of GBA-era games. You’ll guide Pippit the bat through colorful, puzzle-filled levels using a magical yoyo as both a weapon and traversal tool.

 

 

Scar-Lead Salvation

Release Date: May 29
Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC
This intense third-person bullet-hell shooter stars an amnesiac soldier in a world overrun by mechanical foes. With permadeath, procedurally generated stages, and action-packed combat, it’s a challenge for even the most seasoned players.

 

 

Elden Ring: Nightreign

Release Date: May 30
Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
This long-awaited expansion to Elden Ring introduces new areas, bosses, and storylines. Anticipate a deeper exploration of FromSoftware’s dark fantasy world, along with the same brutal combat and sprawling lore.
