PlayStation Plus leaks have been few and far between lately, but it looks like we might already have an idea of one of May’s free PS Plus Essential games. Sony typically announces the lineup the Wednesday before the first Tuesday of the month, but with the Until Dawn movie hitting theaters on Friday, the timing of this leak feels anything but random.
According to a post by Reddit user ShaneTVZ, the Until Dawn remake has appeared in the PlayStation Plus section on PS5. Another Reddit user, Budget-Neat4750, also shared a similar finding, showing Until Dawn listed under “Monthly Games” alongside an image tied to the 2024 remake. Since April’s PS Plus lineup has already been confirmed with RoboCop: Rogue City, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory, this discovery suggests an early leak for May’s offerings.

Until Dawn was first released in 2015 and quickly became a standout in the horror gaming genre. Developed by Supermassive Games, the title delivered a cinematic, choice-driven experience where eight friends are trapped on a remote mountain retreat. Featuring the voice talents and likenesses of Hayden Panettiere, Peter Stormare, and Rami Malek, the game allowed players to shape the story with their decisions, leading to dramatically different outcomes that could change with each playthrough.
The 2024 remake, handled by Ballistic Moon, received mixed reactions from both critics and players. It earned a “Mostly Positive” rating on Steam, but many critics said that it felt more like a basic visual upgrade than a true remake. Performance issues, including frame rate drops and technical hiccups, also contributed to some of the disappointment. Despite these criticisms, the remake attracted new players, especially with the game becoming available on PC for the first time in its history.
The timing of Until Dawn potentially joining PS Plus in May makes sense, given the recent release of the movie adaptation, which just premiered in theaters. Early reviews for the film have been underwhelming, with many fans commenting that it failed to capture the atmosphere, tension, and branching narrative that made the game so memorable. Even so, offering the game for free to PS Plus subscribers could help renew interest in both the movie and the franchise overall.
Sony has not confirmed the May lineup yet, so the leak remains unofficial. However, considering the mounting evidence and the tie-in with the movie release, it seems likely that Until Dawn will be one of the free PS Plus games next month. The full lineup should be officially announced next week when PlayStation fans will find out for certain.
