Hands-On with PUBG: BLINDSPOT at IGN Live — A Fresh Tactical Twist on the PUBG Formula

PUBG: BLINDSPOT isn’t just PUBG with a top-down twist—it’s a full-fledged tactical shooter that demands both precision and strategy, offering a fresh and compelling take on the genre. I had the chance to play PUBG: BLINDSPOT at IGN Live on Saturday and I came away impressed.

The setup felt like a blend of Rainbow Six: Siege’s slow-burn intensity and PUBG: Battleground’s quick bursts of combat. PUBG: Blindspot may draw obvious inspiration from Rainbow Six: Siege, but it leans into that familiarity—and it’s all the more enjoyable for it. The top-down, 5v5 tactical shooter embraces Siege’s core strengths—team-based strategy, tight interior combat, and gadget-focused roles—while injecting PUBG’s signature gunplay and ballistics for a refreshingly different experience

Matches are compact and tense: hackers and defenders vie for control of the “Crypt,” planting or stopping decrypters amid corridors primed for destruction. Unlike PUBG: Battleground’s vast, open-world clashes, Blindspot’s arenas are claustrophobic and designed for methodical progression. Every breach, corner-clear, and peek must be earned—you can’t rely on run-and-gun tactics here.

But while the structural similarities to Siege are unmistakable, Blindspot distinguishes itself through kinetic weapon feel and real-time “shared vision” mechanics. Friends can see each other’s field of view on the minimap—revealing where allies are looking and what they might be seeing. It’s a small but impactful twist that adds an extra layer of tactical depth, encouraging silent coordination and making each moment of map control feel earned.

The icing on the cake is Blindspot’s pacing and polish during its Steam Next Fest demo. The gunplay feels grounded, the weapons satisfyingly punchy—and the chaos of destruction is married to tight, rewarding design. Even critics, like Ian Higton at Eurogamer, who dubbed it “a shameless Siege clone,” couldn’t ignore how “extremely fun” the end result is.

In short: yes, PUBG: Blindspot wears Siege’s influence on its sleeve. But it isn’t just mimicking; it’s enhancing. With PUBG’s shrapnel-filled guns, destructible environments, and that shared-vision angle, it manages to feel both familiar and entirely its own. For anyone craving a tactical 5v5 shooter that feels fresh, fun, and fiercely strategic, Blindspot is absolutely worth watching.

The objective-based format focuses on hacking or defending a single point in each round, similar to classic bomb-defuse modes, but in smaller, destructible maps that keep the action tight and immediate. The shared vision system adds a thrilling layer of complexity to these already tense situations, forcing players to communicate, trust one another, and adapt as a team.
