Circana’s latest sales report provides a snapshot of the U.S. video game market in early 2026, with a mix of new releases, annual franchises, and long-running titles continuing to drive sales.
Resident Evil: Requiem leads the rankings, opening as the best-selling game of the year so far. The title launched with strong momentum, delivering a noticeable jump in both dollar sales and units compared to the previous entry in the series. Its early performance puts it ahead of several established franchises that typically dominate the charts.
Those franchises are still close behind. NBA 2K26 holds the No. 2 spot, continuing the series’ consistent run as one of the top-selling sports titles each year. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 follows at No. 3, extending the franchise’s long-standing presence near the top of monthly and yearly sales rankings.
Minecraft remains a constant in the industry, landing at No. 4. Its continued success shows steady engagement across platforms and a player base that has remained active well beyond its original release window. Grand Theft Auto V tells a similar story, appearing in the top 10 more than a decade after its debut, supported by ongoing interest in its online component.
Newer multiplayer-focused games are also making an impact. Helldivers II breaks into the top five, showing continued demand for cooperative and live-service experiences. Battlefield 6 and EA Sports FC 26 also appear in the rankings, each maintaining a steady player base across console and PC.
Madden NFL 26 continues its annual cycle with another top-10 placement, while Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined joins the list as a remade classic, finding a new audience.

Market Snapshot
Circana’s data shows total U.S. spending on video game content reached $4.0 billion in February, holding steady compared to the same period last year. While some segments saw softer performance, subscription-based content posted growth, helping balance overall spending.
That change continues to show how players are engaging with games beyond traditional one-time purchases. Subscription services, live-service updates, and ongoing content drops are playing a larger role in keeping players invested over longer periods.
What the Rankings Show
The latest rankings point to a few clear patterns. New releases can still break through quickly, especially when tied to established franchises or strong brand recognition. At the same time, annual sports and shooter titles continue to deliver reliable sales year after year.
Long-running games remain a major factor as well. Titles like Minecraft and Grand Theft Auto V continue to generate steady sales through consistent updates, online modes, and platform availability.
Taken together, the early 2026 data show a market that is stable but competitive, where new entries can rise quickly, but staying power still belongs to games that keep players engaged over time.
