Rockstar Games has confirmed Grand Theft Auto VI will release on May 26, 2026, pushing the highly anticipated title out of its original 2025 window. Despite the delay, excitement around the game continues to grow. A brand-new trailer is setting viewership records and fueling fan speculation.
The second official trailer, dropped on May 6, has already reached over 475 million views across all platforms, making it the biggest video debut ever. The first trailer, released in December 2023, had 93 million views on YouTube within the same time frame. The new trailer surpasses major Hollywood film trailers, including Deadpool & Wolverine and The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Set in and around the sun-drenched Vice City, GTA 6 follows protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos as they become entangled in a statewide conspiracy after a heist goes awry. Rockstar has updated the game’s official website with new screenshots, character bios, and story details, offering more clues about what to expect.
The trailer mixes in-game footage with cinematic moments, giving fans a fresh look at the game’s rich environments and the scale of its open world. Familiar elements from past games, such as Ammu-Nation and iconic vehicle designs, return alongside new features like wildlife-filled parks and over-the-top action scenes. One standout moment involves a high-speed chase where a safe is dragged down a street, evoking memories of Fast Five.

Captured entirely on PlayStation 5, the footage includes subtle nods to the platform. In one scene, DualSense-like controllers and a console resembling a PS5 can be seen in the background. These details have sparked speculation that Rockstar and Sony may have a co-marketing deal in place. While nothing official has been announced, PlayStation’s prompt promotion of the trailer and Xbox’s delayed response have added fuel to the theory.
Music also plays a key role in the new trailer. The featured song, “Hot Together” by The Pointer Sisters, saw a 182,000 percent increase in streams on Spotify following the trailer’s release. This continues GTA’s tradition of using music to enrich its storytelling through in-game radio stations and mission soundtracks.

Industry veteran Mike Dailly, one of the original creators of the GTA series, praised Rockstar’s decision to delay the game. He stated that the studio could have released it in a less polished state and still seen massive sales, but instead chose to take extra time to enhance quality.
While fans will have to wait until May 2026 to play the game on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, the massive response to the trailer shows that anticipation remains sky-high. With new official screenshots released and new details emerging, GTA 6 is one of the most eagerly awaited games in history.

It looks very remarkable!
I just seen the new GTA 6 trailer. Now I understand why it’s getting so much attention and praise. The graphics looks so outstanding. It looks so realistic that I thought that I was watching a movie. I haven’t played video games on a while, but I may have to buy GTA 6 next year. I wouldn’t be surprised if this ends up being the most popular game of 2026.
Hopefully I can win that PS5 so I can play GTA VI!
