Lost in Cult, the creative studio behind Design Works art books and Lock-On gaming journals, is expanding into physical video game publishing. The company has launched a new label, which will focus on game preservation, accessibility, and artistic presentation. Their goal is to keep games available beyond the digital space, where titles can often disappear without warning due to licensing issues, storefront closures, or other complications.
The label will release games in two formats. One is a standard mass retail edition, available for sale online and in stores. The other is a limited collector’s Edition, with only 1,000 to 5,000 units produced. These Editions are designed to celebrate the creative work behind each game, offering more than just the game itself and turning each package into a tribute to its development.

The first three titles include Thank Goodness You’re Here for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, Immortality for PlayStation 5, and The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow for Nintendo Switch. All three have received recognition, including honors from BAFTA and year-end best-of lists.
Each game is released complete on disc or cartridge, with no downloads or internet connection needed. Lost in Cult partnered with DoesItPlay, a group that checks physical games for offline functionality, to ensure players can access the games long after release. Every title in the catalog will carry the DoesItPlay seal as a mark of preservation-focused quality.

Each Edition will include a custom slipcase with exclusive artwork, a variant retail cover, art cards, a developer signature card, a fold-out poster and checklist, a sticker, and a booklet curated by former Edge Magazine editor Chris Schilling. The booklet includes interviews with developers and essays about the game’s development. Even the mailer box is designed with custom seasonal artwork to make the unboxing part of the overall experience.
Sam Barlow, creator of Immortality, said the most common request from fans has been a physical version. He said Lost in Cult’s attention to detail made them a natural partner. Shaun Aitcheson of Cloak and Dagger Games, developer of The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow, said the collaboration brought the game to life in a way that far exceeded his expectations.
More titles will be announced soon, and support for additional platforms is already underway. The company is working to create physical game releases that honor both the medium and the people who make it, while also giving players a lasting and tangible way to connect with the games they love.
