At Gamescom 2025’s Opening Night Live, hosted by Geoff Keighley, Call of Duty Black Ops 7 was officially revealed. Developed by Treyarch Studios in collaboration with Raven Software, the new installment continues the Black Ops storyline and introduces some of the most ambitious features in the franchise to date.
A Return to Familiar Faces
The game is set in 2035 and reintroduces David “Section” Mason from Black Ops II. He is joined by returning antagonist Raul Menéndez and new character Emma Kagan. The story promises a psychological edge, exploring how fear and manipulation shape the battlefield.
Release Date and Beta
Call of Duty Black Ops 7 is scheduled to release on November 14. The game will launch on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Battle.net, Steam, and Xbox on PC. It will also be available day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
Pre-orders grant access to the Open Beta beginning October 2, while all players can join from October 5 to 8.
Campaign and Endgame Mode
The campaign is playable solo or in co-op with up to four players. A new global progression system means all eliminations and objectives contribute to Global XP across the entire game, tying the campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies together. Locations include neon-soaked rooftops in Japan, the Mediterranean city of Avalon, and segments that explore the human psyche itself.
A major addition is Endgame, a large-scale cooperative mode set in Avalon. Here, players use personalized abilities to fight through waves of enemies in a shared world experience. This feature blends open-ended exploration with survival mechanics and is expected to become a cornerstone of the game.
Multiplayer
Multiplayer returns with a balance of classic and new experiences. At launch, sixteen 6v6 maps will be available, including three remastered maps from Black Ops II. Two large 20v20 maps debut the new Skirmish mode, designed to deliver large-scale battles similar to those found in other popular military shooters.
Movement has been expanded on the omnimovement system from Black Ops 6. Grapple hooks, wall jumps, boost jumps, and wingsuits are now part of the action, especially useful in the vertical Skirmish maps.
Zombies Reimagined
Zombies mode also makes a comeback with a mix of fresh ideas and fan favorites. A large, round-based map will feature a “Wonder Vehicle” that players must assemble to move across its expansive landscape. Survival maps inspired by classics like Liberty Falls will be included, alongside the return of Dead Ops Arcade, now updated to Dead Ops Arcade 4.
Community Reaction
The reveal has drawn both praise and skepticism. Fans are excited about the cooperative campaign and ambitious scope, while some critics question whether the cinematic focus might dilute the gameplay. Still, the scale of the announcement and the variety of modes suggest this could be one of the boldest entries in the series.
Final Thoughts
Call of Duty Black Ops 7 pushes the franchise forward with a more ambitious campaign, expanded multiplayer, and a reimagined Zombies mode. With a November launch on multiple platforms and a beta just weeks away, anticipation is running high.
