Summer is usually slow for major game drops, but July 2025 is playing by its own rules. This month’s release schedule brings a surprising mix of blockbuster titles, long-awaited sequels, polished remasters, and promising indies. Whether you’re into platforming chaos, college football comebacks, or exploring strange new worlds, there’s plenty to load up and dive into.
EA Sports College Football 26
(PlayStation, Xbox, PC – July 10)
After over a decade away, college football returns to consoles with College Football 26. Players can experience fully licensed teams, revamped physics, and a more immersive coach progression system. The game includes authentic stadium atmospheres, real traditions, and NIL-era player likenesses. Fans who pre-ordered got early access, but the full release arrives July 10. With its updated visuals and improved gameplay mechanics, this is one of the biggest sports titles of the summer.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 Remastered
(All Platforms – July 11)
Nostalgia is back on the board. Following the success of the 1 + 2 remakes, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 Remastered brings high-definition visuals, new tricks, and fresh customization features to two more skateboarding classics. The game also includes online multiplayer, a deeper park editor, and crossover content featuring Tony the Tiger from the Frosted Flakes collaboration. Whether you’re a veteran player or new to the series, this one delivers fast-paced fun with a modern edge.
Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate Expansion
(Multi-platform – July 15)
Guardians return to action in Edge of Fate, the newest expansion for Destiny 2. This update introduces a new story set on a collapsing orbital station, complete with fresh exotic weapons, time-based abilities, and a new raid experience. The expansion costs around $40 and continues the evolving narrative while offering new activities for solo players and squads alike. It’s a solid reason to revisit the game if you’ve been away.
Donkey Kong Bananza
(Nintendo Switch 2 – July 17)
The wait for a new Donkey Kong platformer is over. Bananza is swinging onto the Nintendo Switch 2 with destructible environments, rhythm-based gameplay, and a new co-op mode that lets players team up with Cranky, Diddy, and even Pauline. Players can expect physics-driven mayhem, colorful worlds, and a dynamic soundtrack that changes with your performance. Donkey Kong Bananza is one of the first major exclusive titles for Nintendo’s new console.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers
(Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC – July 24)
Set in a dark version of late Ming dynasty China, Wuchang blends myth and historical fiction in a brutal action RPG. Players explore eerie landscapes and face corrupted enemies using a cursed feathered arm as part of the game’s combat system. With tight mechanics and rich lore, it’s shaping up to be a hit. The fact that it launches on Xbox Game Pass makes it easy to try without the full price tag.
Grounded 2
(Xbox, PC – Early Access July 29)
Obsidian’s backyard survival game gets a bigger sequel. Grounded 2 expands the playable world with new zones, underwater exploration, more creatures, and junkyard vehicle crafting. It keeps the charm and scale of the original but adds more depth for both solo players and co-op groups. The early access version drops at the end of the month and will continue evolving.
More Releases to Watch
Indies like Kaizen: A Factory Story and Dawn Apart (both on July 14) bring logic-driven gameplay and puzzles to PC. Monument Valley 3 arrives July 23 with serene visuals and clever mechanics. On the action side, Mecha BREAK (July 2) and Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound (July 31) promise high-speed battles and combat to close out the month.
I wonder if it’s worth it to get the new NCAA and Madden? Especially as expensive as games are it’s hard to justify for a basic roster update and minimal improvements.
