Where Is Marvel’s Wolverine? Fans Frustrated Over Ongoing Silence

Marvel Wolverine

While Summer Game Fest 2025 brought plenty of new game announcements, the continued absence of Marvel’s Wolverine was one of the biggest disappointments. The highly anticipated PlayStation exclusive from Insomniac Games has not been seen in any official capacity since its reveal in 2021. Its absence from both Sony’s State of Play and Summer Game Fest has raised concerns about its future.

Fans were hoping for a surprise update from the project during Geoff Keighley’s showcase. Instead, the show ended without a single mention of Wolverine. The silence has led to growing frustration, especially since Sony is an official partner of Summer Game Fest. The lack of updates for one of PlayStation’s most anticipated titles left a noticeable gap during an event that already felt light on major surprises.

Insomniac Games first announced Marvel’s Wolverine with a cinematic teaser in September 2021. Since then, official information about the game has been almost nonexistent. Complicating matters was a massive data breach in late 2023, which leaked early gameplay footage, concept art, and internal documents related to the project. While Insomniac later reassured fans that development was moving forward, the studio also stated that updates would not be coming anytime soon.

That long silence is now testing the patience of Marvel fans. Nearly two years after the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, expectations were high that Insomniac would shift focus to Wolverine. The fact that Spider-Man 2 has not received any major downloadable content has only fueled speculation that the studio’s resources were being dedicated to their X-Men project.

Wolverine

Concerns have only grown in the wake of the recent cancellation of EA’s Black Panther game. After multiple high-profile superhero games have failed to materialize, fans are understandably nervous that Marvel’s Wolverine could be next. Many have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to demand updates from Insomniac, with the hashtag #WolverinePS5 filled with questions, frustration, and speculation.

There has been no official cancellation. Rumors continue to swirl that significant changes might have been made behind the scenes to distinguish Wolverine from the Spider-Man series, but none of that has been confirmed by the studio or Sony.

Despite the frustration, Marvel’s Wolverine is still assumed to be in development. Until Sony or Insomniac breaks their silence, the game remains one of the biggest question marks in PlayStation’s lineup. Without updates, fans are left wondering if Marvel’s Wolverine will release during the PlayStation 5 generation or quietly fade away.

For now, the wait continues.
