American Legion Gaming (ALG) is looking for original stories, personal experiences, and perspectives from the military-connected gaming community to feature on algvets.org.
Veterans, active-duty Service Members, military spouses, family members, and supporters are encouraged to send in submissions. You do not need to be a professional writer. We are looking for real voices, stories, and honest perspectives about gaming and the role it can play in people’s lives.
ALG is built around three core pillars: comfort, connection, and careers. Submissions should connect to at least one of those areas.
The comfort pillar focuses on how gaming can help people relax, reset, manage stress, or get through difficult seasons. You might write about a game that helped you unwind after service, how gaming became part of your routine, or how certain games helped you feel less alone.
The connection pillar is about community and belonging. Submissions could cover how a post sets up a gaming space, how members use gaming to bring people together, or advice for other posts that want to start their own gaming program. Writers may also share stories about online communities, esports, streaming, tabletop games, or gaming events that helped people build friendships and stay connected.
The careers pillar focuses on opportunities tied to gaming, technology, digital media, content creation, esports, streaming, game development, marketing, and related fields. Submissions can include career advice, personal experiences, lessons learned, or tips for Veterans and Service Members exploring a new path after service.
There are plenty of ways to contribute. Someone might write about a video game they enjoy and why others should try it. Another person might review a movie or show based on a video game and compare it to the original game. Others may want to write about American Legion state departments making progress on a video games and digital gaming resolution, or share how gaming is being used to support Veterans.
Submissions must be original and at least 500 words. A photo is optional but welcome. Please include a short bio with your submission so readers can learn a little more about you.
Selected submissions may be published on ALG platforms and shared with readers interested in gaming, Veterans, Service Members, military families, and the growing role of gaming in community, wellness, and career development.
Submissions should be emailed for consideration to:

I have found that being able to play games online helps me to decompress from the stress of day to day life. The games that I play are usually like card games (solitaire), bingo, and other simples type games. I like the fact that you can find whatever kind of game that you enjoy playing online. The thing that I find hard to do about playing games is finding ones that are free to play and not just for your phone. As a veteran who has some issues with mental health playing the games I do play helps so much with my mental health. So playing games on your computer isn’t just for kids it is for anyone wanting to have fun and stay sane.
