The Wheel of Time, 2021

Fans of Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time have something new to look forward to. Iwot Productions, the company behind the Amazon Prime Video series, has announced the development of a new video game based on the book series. It will be an open-world-role-playing game, and it is being created entirely in-house by the newly launched Iwot Games division.

Craig Alexander, a veteran of the gaming industry, is leading the project. He previously held leadership roles at Warner Bros Games and worked on large-scale fantasy titles including The Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons and Dragons Online. He described the opportunity to bring The Wheel of Time to life as a video game as a rare and exciting challenge. Alexander said he is building a team capable of honoring the depth and scale of the beloved series.

The new game is expected to take about three years to develop and will be released on both PC and consoles. Iwot Studios CEO Rick Selvage shared that the game will not be limited to a single location or time period from the books. Instead, it will explore the entire world of The Wheel of Time, including content from all 14 novels and the extensive backstory that surrounds them. Selvage said the game will include everything covered in the books along with the historical and mythological elements that shape the universe.

This project is part of Iwot’s ongoing effort to grow The Wheel of Time franchise. In addition to the Amazon TV series, which just concluded its third season, the company is working on a live-action prequel film called Age of Legends and a 3D animated feature. Selvage noted that assets created for the films will likely support the development of the game as well, allowing for shared visuals, marketing efforts, and fan engagement across the different formats.

This will not be the first time The Wheel of Time has been adapted into a game. In 1999, Legend Entertainment released a first-person shooter inspired by the series. However, this new project promises to offer a much more immersive and expansive experience that fully captures the scale of Jordan’s world.

As fans continue to wait for news about a possible fourth season of the show, this upcoming game adds another layer to the growing universe of The Wheel of Time. With an experienced team at the helm and a focus on staying true to the source material, the project has the potential to bring the story to life in an entirely new way.

They are taking content from 14 novels? Usually when the entertainment industry does this I get mad because they screw it up. I hope they do the story justice since it going to take them 3 years to release the game.

This would be great but please make it like the books and not like the show! The show is fine (for a show), but it was extensively reworked/changed from the books.
