Agatha Christie – Death on the Nile

Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile is coming to life in a whole new way. Microids Studio Lyon has confirmed that its updated video game adaptation of the classic mystery will launch on September 25.

Available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, the game is currently open for pre-orders. A physical Limited Edition will also be available and includes the full game, a 48-page artbook, an exclusive bookmark, and a digital copy of the original soundtrack.

This version of Death on the Nile isn’t just a retelling of Christie’s original novel. It introduces new storylines, gameplay mechanics, and settings while staying true to the spirit of the source material. Much like Microids’ earlier adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express, the game blends traditional detective work with modern narrative.

One of the most significant changes is the addition of a second playable character. Players will alternate between the legendary Belgian detective Hercule Poirot and a newly created investigator named Jane Royce. While Poirot is logical and measured, Royce is bold, intuitive, and unafraid to challenge even the sharpest minds. Each character brings a different point of view and a distinct method of investigation. The dual storyline adds depth to the mystery as players gather evidence and question suspects from both perspectives.

The story kicks off with what seems like a peaceful cruise down the Nile, but it quickly becomes the setting for a chilling crime. Meanwhile, Royce is on a separate case that spans several international locations, including London, Majorca, New York, and finally Egypt. The two detectives’ paths cross at Abu Simbel, where their investigations intertwine and the full scope of the mystery is revealed.

Set in the 1970s, the game draws on the atmosphere of a decade defined by social change and cultural expression. Players can expect richly detailed environments, vibrant character designs, and references to the feminist and civil rights movements that shaped the era. From flared trousers and disco lights to shifting societal expectations, the setting adds a new layer to the storytelling.

Gameplay includes more than just interviewing witnesses and finding clues. Players will use an enhanced mindmap system to organize information, make deductions, and track their progress. New tools like lock-picking, spying, shadowing suspects, and mental reconstruction will be added to the mix. These elements make the investigation more interactive and allow players to dig deeper into each scene.

The Limited Edition, currently announced for the UK, adds a collectible aspect to the release. Though the artbook and bookmark may not be available globally, all players will have access to the standard edition across platforms.

With expanded gameplay, layered storytelling, and a fresh take on a beloved mystery, Death on the Nile promises to offer more than just nostalgia. It reintroduces Agatha Christie’s world through a lens that feels familiar but is filled with new secrets to uncover.
