Bandai Namco and FromSoftware are raising the stakes for Elden Ring players once again. On September 11, Elden Ring: Nightreign will debut its most punishing content yet. The new mode, called Deep of Night, is a high difficulty challenge designed to push even veteran players beyond their limits and test every skill they have developed so far.
Unlike the main Nightreign experience, Deep of Night strips away player choice in enemy encounters. Participants will no longer be able to pick which Nightlord to fight, forcing them to adapt on the fly. To make matters even harder, terrain advantages are disabled, meaning players cannot rely on the shifting battlefield mechanics that often turned the tide in previous runs.
Enemies in this mode are considerably stronger, with more aggressive attack patterns and higher damage output. To balance the intensity, Deep of Night introduces Depths Relics, rare items and weapons that can grant extraordinary powers. However, each comes with drawbacks that can hinder as much as they help. This risk-and-reward system ensures that strategy, build planning, and resource management are just as important as raw skill in every encounter.
Progression through Deep of Night is measured by levels known as Depths. Players start at Depth 1 and advance by winning battles. Losing can push them back to lower levels, keeping the challenge unpredictable. Depth 3 is expected to be a true test for experienced adventurers, while Depths 4 and 5 unlock an endless battle option. This feature allows players to face wave after wave of enemies with no set conclusion, catering to those who crave nonstop endurance challenges that feel nearly impossible to complete.
Deep of Night will be available as a free update across all platforms where Nightreign is playable. This includes PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The update follows Nightreign’s release on May 30, which blended the punishing combat of Soulslike design with roguelike cooperative elements. Since launch, the game has continued to evolve with harder Everdark Sovereign boss variants, and this new addition continues the trend of scaling difficulty that rewards persistence.
With enemies hitting harder, mechanics stripped away, and endless descent into darkness, Deep of Night is built for players who refuse to back down. FromSoftware has made a name for itself by crafting brutal yet rewarding experiences, and this new mode shows that Elden Ring: Nightreign still has plenty of ways to challenge its most dedicated community of fans.
Neat update. Any word on when Duo mode is coming?
Looking forward to this
Not gonna lie – sounds like it’s gonna be a lot of fun! Bring it on!
