Infinity Nikki Version 1.5 Update Sparks Backlash and Boycott

Infinity Nikki

The long-anticipated Version 1.5 update of Infinity Nikki was expected to be a celebratory moment, especially with the game finally launching on Steam after months of Epic Games Store exclusivity. Instead, it ignited one of the most chaotic weeks the community has seen. Between bugs, crashes, login issues, and controversial design choices, the update left many fans frustrated and disappointed.

Right from the start, technical problems plagued the launch. Players reported crashing issues, sluggish performance, and in some cases, were unable to access the game at all. The backlash was swift. Within hours, Infinity Nikki had earned a “Mixed” rating on Steam, and angry posts began flooding forums and social media platforms. Infold, the game’s developer, quickly released a lengthy apology letter and issued in-game compensation in the form of 10 Revelation Crystals, 10 Resonance Crystals, and 1200 Diamonds. Still, many players felt the apology failed to address some of the deeper concerns.

One of the biggest points of contention is the introduction of 11-piece 5-star outfits, which pushes the number of required pulls to a maximum of 220. This change came with no warning and was seen as a step toward more aggressive monetization. Before this update, 5-star outfits typically required no more than 10 pieces, already considered steep. The frustration only grew when some of the new outfit pieces, like stockings under a long dress, were barely visible. Infold claimed the additional items were necessary due to added complexity such as co-op animations and music. The developer promised not to exceed 11 pieces per outfit in the future, but players worry this sets a precedent for even more expensive 6-star outfits later on.

Another sore spot was the sudden retcon of the game’s original opening story. The updated tutorial replaced the old narrative with a new co-op level, removing key characters like Ena and altering the tone of the game. Long-time fans were confused and upset, particularly because there was no announcement or explanation. Many feel this undermines the game’s world-building and leaves newcomers with a completely different introduction than the one originally intended.

The Mira Crown event also became a flashpoint after Infold quietly extended it from two to three weeks. Following backlash, the developer backtracked and confirmed the event would now occur twice a month with fixed start dates. Meanwhile, players in China, already frustrated with earlier changes like altered Steam Wishlist rewards, began organizing a boycott that quickly gained international support. Fans encouraged others to hold off on pulling from banners to impact the game’s early performance metrics.

While Infold has addressed some concerns and committed to better communication, many players remain wary. The community’s pressure has already led to a few reversals, but many are still calling for more transparency and fairer features. Whether the studio listens in the long term remains to be seen. For now, Infinity Nikki is at a crossroads, with its community watching every move.

Don’t play games that include microtransactions.

Yeah, Microtransactions suck. I’d rather just pay for the game and be done with it.

Wow that is a crazy increase in the number of pulls required to “max” out your character. Game trying to slowly increase the rates to make more money?
