Star Wars Battlefront 2 is enjoying an unexpected resurgence, repeatedly breaking its player count records on Steam. While this renewed interest is partly fueled by EA’s steep discounts, the excitement surrounding the game has taken on a life of its own. Fans are not only returning in droves to play but are also calling on EA to finally green-light Star Wars Battlefront 3 and give players the sequel they’ve been hoping for.
The most recent surge came during EA’s major sale, which slashed the price of Battlefront 2 by 90%, bringing it down to $3.99 until June 26. Thousands of players jumped in, pushing the game to an all-time high of 35,892 concurrent players on June 22. That’s more than triple its previous Steam record, a staggering 2200% increase from last June’s numbers. The discount alone doesn’t explain this momentum, though. Other factors are adding fuel to the fire.

Major Star Wars milestones have helped spark interest. The return of Revenge of the Sith to theaters for its 20th anniversary, season two of Andor, and even Star Wars-themed events in Fortnite have all contributed. The Battlefront 2 community also organized Resurgence Day, a fan-driven event designed to rally support for the game and make sure EA noticed. That event brought in thousands of returning players, eager to experience the game’s large-scale multiplayer battles once again.
One of the loudest voices supporting the game’s revival is NBA star Kyrie Irving, who streamed Battlefront 2 and shared his enthusiasm for both the game and the hope of a sequel. His passion resonated with fans, helping to push hashtags like #Battlefront3 and #MakeBattlefront3 into trending territory on social media.
“I love this game because I wanna have a big LAN competition with this man, I wanna play the best Battlefront 2 players in the world. I want them to make Battlefront 3 already bro!” Irving said on Twitch.

Despite this massive uptick in popularity, EA has not announced any plans for a sequel. The company is focusing on a select group of franchises such as Battlefield, The Sims, Apex Legends, and Skate. Meanwhile, former developers of the series have publicly expressed their interest in coming back to work on a third Battlefront if given the opportunity.
For now, Star Wars Battlefront 2 remains a success story on Steam, proving that a dedicated community can breathe new life into a game long after its official support has ended. Whether that passion will eventually convince EA to reconsider remains to be seen.
