The long-awaited System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster was set to launch on PC and consoles this week, but only the PC version will release as planned. Nightdive Studios announced that the console versions have been delayed just days before their expected June 26 launch. The new release window is now targeting the first half of July.
In a statement shared on Bluesky, Nightdive explained, “We have encountered issues that have prevented us from launching System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster on consoles, including Xbox, Switch, and PlayStation, on June 26 as originally intended. We’re currently working to address these issues as quickly as possible.”
They confirmed the PC version will still launch on schedule across Steam, GOG, Epic, and Humble. The main reason for the delay is related to the certification process required for console platforms. Nightdive says a handful of multiplayer-specific bugs are being resolved. While there is no confirmed new launch date for the console editions yet, the team is now targeting the first two weeks of July and plans to share updates as soon as a final timeline is locked in.
In System Shock 2, players awaken from cryo-sleep aboard the starship Von Braun in the year 2114, confused and implanted with cybernetic enhancements. As they explore the ship, they will face horrifying mutated crew members, corrupted machines, and the rogue artificial intelligence SHODAN, whose chilling voice and intentions haunt every corner of the narrative.
Originally released in 1999, System Shock 2 is widely regarded as one of the most influential sci-fi horror RPGs of its era. This remastered edition includes upgraded 4K visuals, cross-play co-op multiplayer, smoother performance at up to 120 frames per second, and several quality-of-life enhancements. Console players can also expect full achievement support, with a total of 50 achievements to unlock when the list goes live.

The remaster began as System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition before evolving into a full anniversary edition to celebrate the game’s legacy. Nightdive’s work modernizes the experience while remaining faithful to the original’s atmosphere, mechanics, and immersive storytelling. The team has taken extra care to preserve what made the game a genre-defining title while adding features that will appeal to both longtime fans and new players alike.
Although console players will have to wait a bit longer, Nightdive has given fans confidence in the final product. For now, those on PC can return to the Von Braun this Thursday, while everyone else can prepare for a tense and unforgettable journey once consoles catch up.
