Sony’s next State of Play, rumored for the end of September 2025, may finally showcase what fans have long been eager to see: new footage of Marvel’s Wolverine, Insomniac Games‘ upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive.

According to reports, Insider Gaming sources suggest that the second trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine is complete and “almost certainly” set to debut during this upcoming State of Play broadcast. The timing follows closely on the heels of Sony’s recent focused showcase for 007 First Light, suggesting that Sony may expand its focus with more announcements later this month.

The game was first announced during the 2021 PlayStation Showcase but has remained mostly absent from public events since its debut teaser. Fans caught a glimpse of early gameplay only through a leak that followed Insomniac’s 2023 ransomware attack, but no official content has been released in nearly four years. The completion of a new trailer has sparked hopes that the wait is about to end, and many believe this reveal could set the stage for where Sony is heading with the PlayStation 5 in the years ahead.

Community excitement is building. On Reddit, one user cited the rumor that “sources revealed that Insomniac Games’ Wolverine is almost certainly going to be at the event, as the production of its next trailer has now been completed.” Fans across gaming forums and media outlets are fueling speculation that the next State of Play could be one of the most exciting in years if Wolverine takes the spotlight with a real look at gameplay, story, and combat.

For Sony, the inclusion of Wolverine would give the event a major boost as the PlayStation 5 continues into its later years. With the success of Insomniac’s Spider-Man series, expectations for Wolverine are extremely high. Fans are looking for darker, more mature storytelling and a gameplay experience that differs from Spider-Man’s open world. A well-timed reveal could set the tone for Sony’s first-party lineup heading into 2026 and beyond, giving PlayStation owners a reason to stay invested in upcoming releases.

If Wolverine does not appear in September, insiders believe the next most likely debut would be during The Game Awards in December. That event has become a major showcase for blockbuster titles and would serve as another global stage for Insomniac’s highly anticipated project.

As of early September, multiple sources point to the end-of-month State of Play as a probable moment for Sony to finally reintroduce Marvel’s Wolverine. Whether it appears now or later in the year, the anticipation surrounding the game ensures that any reveal will be one of the most talked-about moments in gaming for 2025, keeping players engaged and eager for what comes next.

Hopefully they follow the trend of the latest Wolverine movie and the Deadpool movies. To get the real, visceral Wolverine feel, you need to have the blood and carnage. As for combat and gameplay mechanics, I have full faith in Insomniac, given the excellent combat in their Spider-Man games so far.
