Stranger Things Catalyst

Sandbox VR and Netflix are joining forces once again to launch an immersive new experience based on the hit series Stranger Things. The game, Stranger Things: Catalyst, is set to arrive at Sandbox VR locations worldwide later this year. The release will line up with the premiere of the show’s fifth and final season, giving fans a new way to engage with the story and take their fandom further.

In this experience, players will explore iconic locations from Hawkins, Indiana, while confronting terrifying creatures from the Upside Down. They will unlock supernatural abilities and become part of a fully immersive storyline, working together with friends to survive increasingly intense challenges. Sandbox VR uses full-body motion tracking and advanced haptic technology to make every movement and reaction feel realistic. Each player’s body becomes their game controller, allowing for complete physical immersion and authentic interaction within the game world.

This is the third collaboration between the two companies. Previous VR titles include Squid Game Virtuals and Rebel Moon: The Descent. Like those projects, Stranger Things: Catalyst is a location-based virtual reality experience developed by Sandbox VR’s in-house AAA gaming studio. It combines cinematic storytelling, physical interactivity, and group gameplay to deliver something beyond what home VR systems can offer to players seeking immersive entertainment.

Steve Zhao, founder and CEO of Sandbox VR, said this new project will let fans step into the Stranger Things world they’ve only seen on screen. By entering the story and experiencing the tension firsthand, players can build lasting memories alongside their friends. Zhao added that the technology brings people closer to their favorite shows in a way that feels real, social, and incredibly engaging.

The launch of Stranger Things: Catalyst is timed to boost excitement for Season 5 of the series. Netflix plans to release the final season in three parts: November 26, December 25, and December 31. With the series coming to a close, this VR experience gives fans another way to stay connected to the show’s universe during its final chapter, extending the experience beyond traditional viewing.

Sandbox VR is also expanding rapidly, with plans to grow its network of venues by more than 50 percent before the end of the year. As one of Netflix’s most viewed and awarded series, Stranger Things is a natural choice for such an ambitious VR title. Fans ready for more than just a finale binge can gather their crew, suit up, and enter Hawkins to face what waits on the other side.
